Protecting Your Swimming Pool From Algae

Swimming Pool From AlgaeHomeowners that have swimming pools in their homes have to maintain and take care of them effectively on a regular basis. If the pool is not maintained appropriately then algae growth will take place in your swimming pool which will cause undesirable changes in the water quality of the pool.

Algae growth (black, yellow or green algae growth) in the swimming pool can become very irritating for the homeowner as once these organisms start growing in your swimming pool they cause a lot of nuisance to you and do not disappear that easily. Getting rid of algae from your pool is a difficult task. This article will highlight certain ways in which you can protect your swimming pool from these troublesome algae.

Give a shock treatment to your pool. Shock is simply a type of chlorine that is extremely concentrated. Once shock is added to your swimming pool, the survival of the algae will become next to impossible. After this treatment is done ensure that you check the levels of the chemicals in the pool and then allow people to enter it. Always monitor the alkaline and PH level of the swimming pool water. Sanitize your swimming pool using either bromine or chlorine every week or month especially during the summer season.

You can utilize algaecide to kill the algae quickly and algaecide (chemical composed of copper) will not allow algae to grow in your swimming pool again in the future. After the algae are dead, you can vacuum clean the swimming pool.

Acid wash can also help protect your pool from algae growth. This is done using a mixture of an acid and water. Acid wash can be done only in an empty pool. But you have to ensure that you remove every drop of acid and water mixture from the pool before it is filled with water again.
