Though the word ‘rust’ brings a fed up look over many faces, there can actually be wonderful applications of this look. When it comes too wooden artifacts, a rustic appeal (natural or artificial) can give it a historic feel. You can actually carve this feeling using a few simple guidelines.
Select the wooden object you want to make rustic. Mark the points which will wear over the period of time & scrape them so as to peel off the upper layer. Do not apply pressure over the surface – it might lead to a mess. Better yet, you can add a couple of stabs using an ice pick – it will give the impression of the object being used for quite a few decades. Even though you wish to have a rustic appeal, you will still need to paint a protective coat over the object to protect it from real world deterioration.
